Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced a $200 million (about ₹2,000 crore) investment in Next Bharat Ventures Fund-2, marking one of its largest startup commitments in India to date. The new fund is designed to support startups that improve livelihoods and essential services in rural and underserved communities.

Key highlights include:

  • Fund size: ₹2,000 crore (approximately $200 million), with Suzuki as the anchor investor. Additional capital is expected from other Japanese corporations.
  • Investment focus: Early- and growth-stage startups in:
    • Agriculture and agritech
    • Financial inclusion
    • Healthcare and healthtech
    • Rural supply chains and livelihoods
    • AI for social good
    • Solutions for informal and gig-economy workers
  • Deployment timeline: The fund is expected to invest over the next three to four years.
  • Investment strategy: Alongside direct startup investments, roughly half the corpus may be allocated to a fund-of-funds strategy by investing in other venture capital firms focused on impact startups.
